The Storage Administrator is a member of the Storage & Backup Team reporting to the Technical Support Manager.
Responsible for the management, support and development of centralised storage and backup for UNIX and Windows based operating systems.
They will monitor system availability, performance and capacity planning across specified platforms, as directed.
This will also involve investigating new releases of supported software and recommending migration actions, where applicable.
• To ensure that all changes/work requests are Planned, Managed and actioned relating to SAN/NAS/ Centralised Backup.
• Liaison with other ES teams as required.
• Liaison with 3rd parties as required.

• Technical support of Cisco MDS9000 series SAN fabric and director class switches.
• Diagnose, research and resolve storage issues.
• Provide input into System Enterprise Management Team to enable effective monitoring of all SAN /NAS devices Implementation:
• Storage provisioning for HDS, NetApp and IBM storage environments for local and remote data centres.
• Software product installations, updates, and customizations for storage components and SAN switch infrastructure.
• Implementation of SAN changes following agreed change management procedures.
• Implementation of solutions for capacity and performance related issues.
Development:
• Evaluate current backup applications and methodologies, with an eye towards integration into Storage Networking technologies such as data replication, remote site mirroring, and new generation tape storage.
• Assess the need for implementing high-availability solutions to maximize application uptime and reduce unplanned outages.
• Continually evaluate and refine implementations to ensure optimum performance and applicability of operating system maintenance, hardware maintenance, and system documentation
Essential Skills
Experience in administering SAN's from Modular to Enterprise level.
To possess the ability to operate with own discretion, individually and as a key member of a team.
Prepared to be flexible when the need arises for out of hours work, or visits to client sites.
